Product Manager
What is the difference between all of the different Product Types?
Product Type:
There are seven different product types to set products as. This is a required field for inserting a new product.
- Individual
The system will recognize the product as a separate product, independent from every other one. Set the product type as individual if you are inserting it one time.
- Master/Slave
This is a relationship based on if the product has multiple attributes. Meaning a product with more than one color, or sizes. You would first insert the master product (which you will not be able to set the price or description for). This near empty product will only be used to house all of the other products color/size option. Now create a slave product, using the same product code as the master, and set the Product Attribute and Model to something unique. When you view the master product on your store, you will see all of the various slaves associated with it.
- Kit
If you want to bundle products into a group, then set the product type to kit and for every product you want in the bundle, set the model number the same.
- Virtual/Intangible
This is to create a digital product like a gift card or service charge. Now weight is associated with it, so no shipping will be charged.
- Rental
For making rental products.
For rentals, you will need to use a few of the fields above differently than you would with regular products. In Products Name, please specify the length of the rental period in parentheses after the name of the product (for example, French Horn Rental (Month-to-Month) or Flute Rental (10-Month Prepaid)). For Products Cost, use the price of the rental for one month, and for Products Price, use the total price of the rental (these two values will be the same for month-to-month rentals). Every other field above is used in the same way as regular products.
- Lease-to-own
For making rental products where the user will eventually own.
For lease-to-own programs, you will need to use a few of the fields above differently than you would with regular products. In Products Name, please specify the length of the lease program in parentheses after the name of the product (for example, Trumpet Lease-to-Own (12 Months) or Clarinet Lease-to-Own (24 Months)). For Products Cost, use the monthly price for the lease program, for Products List, use the residual value, and for Products Price, use the combined cost of the down payment price and the monthly price. Every other field above is used in the same way as regular products.
